Workshop 3

1-What is the historical context of this character?
 -  The historical context of the character is in Russia where a called "October Socialist Revolution" took     place in 1917. In this revolution all the discrimination against jewish people where abolished.

2- Describes the character.Mention the main aspects of his life
   - Lev VYGOTSKY was born in Russia ,he grew up in Gomel.During his adolescence and being really into        theather, in 1915 he wrote an essay about Hamlet. He studied medicine and law in the
 Moscow State University;graduated in 1918 he comes back to his hometown to achieve his dream,
to teach psychology and literatures so in that same moment in October revolution was taking place.He
 also taught Russian grammar and literaturein the School of work for the workers,directed a theatrical news paper,  among others.
In 1919 he got tuberculosis so he intensified his work spirit.
In the pedagogic institute he created a laboratory of psycology to study children from kindergarden with learning problems;afterwards he founded a book called educational psychology in 1926.

3-What does this character propound in the education?
-Vygotsky's theory is demonstrated in those classrooms where social interaction is encouraged,,where teachers talk with children and use language to express themselves  orally and writing they are favoring the dialogue between group members so eventually they learn how to create by thinking.

4-What the role of the student in his model?
-The teacher's role in the process of learning is reduced over time.Also,Vygotsky is relevant to instructional concept such as Scaffolding" and "apprenticeship", in wich a teacher or more advanced peer helps to structure or arrange a task so that a novice can work on it succesfully.

5-What is the role of the student in his model?
-Vygotsky believes that  young children are curious and actively involved in their own learning and the discovery and development pf new understanding/schema.
However,Vygotsky placed more emphasis on social contributions to the process of development.According to Vygotsky ,much important learning by the child occurs through social interaction with a skillfull tutor.The tutor may model behaviours and/or provides verbal interactions for the child.

6-Give an example on his model in a specific situation?
 - A contemporary application of Vygotsky's theories is a "reciprocal teaching",used to improves students ability to learn from text.In this method,teacher and students collaborate in learning and practicing four hey skills: summarizing,questioning,clarifying and predicting.
